Hand painted watch dials.
I have reworked the 2 hand painted watch dials, titled "Beautiful Planet" - (Belle planète/Pianeta bello). These dials were sent to me by Yvan Arpa of ArtyA Watches to experiment with and I thank him for the opportunity to do so.
The images are abstracted visions of planet Earth. They can either be seen as a view of Earth from outer space...the "Big" picture, or alternatively they could be seen as microscopic views of an eco system. Views from either the telescope or the microscope! I have often been in wonder of scientific microscopic photographs of the human body, even down to a cellular level, and how they can be interpreted as geographical landscape. This only serves to re-enforce the belief of many indigenous groups around the globe, that the land lives within us all, and I think relating this visually on the face of a watch is somehow poetic. Because time belongs to us all, and we belong to time, on this planet that lives within each and every one of us.
The mediums used on these dials are gold/silver/copper leaf and oil paint.

The studio clean up is still continuing, what should have taken 3-4 days to complete, is taking over a month. My back and hip problems are making it impossible for me to work any more than 1 or 2 hours a day, sometimes in 15 minute sessions. I am due to go in for spinal facet joint injections on Monday morning, hopefully this will provide some relief from the incessant pain.
